The Job :
The Chemist is responsible to plan and coordinate resources to establish analytical technology and system for supporting the business analytical requirement in effective, reliable and safe manner, and include leading improvement, troubleshooting, evaluating & implementing new analytical requirement, resolving analytical related issues and providing analytical services to the Ethylene, Ethylene Glycol, Buthanol, Butyl Acetate, Glycol Ethers, Ethanolamines, Alkoxylation, Chemical Mixing, Utilities, and Distribution facilities.
The Responsibilities :
Establish objectives that are aligned with business and global analytical strategies and track goals, plans and metrics.
Plan, lead, coordinate technical expertise for:
Analytical technology and information process chemistry
Product composition and properties
Root cause or failure analysis
Adopting, adapting and implementing MET
Lead and facilitate the optimization and standardization of analytical technology and services within the business, responsible to the business / function for meeting all analytical requirements and reducing variation, cost and cycle time of all analytical activities.
Develop response plans for non-routine requests, taking into account the value creation potential and considering a wide range of technical options and, plan and schedule or perform complicated analyses.
Evaluate validity of data, apply statistics technique, interpret results and take appropriate action in close cooperation with other functions and organizations.
Establish and maintain laboratory operating procedures and documentation in accordance with the document control procedure, ISO standards, OPTIMAL Work process and Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS).
Integrate with other roles and job functions to improve and coordinate manufacturing processes, products stewardships and analytical systems, concerning value generation potential, performance and reliability.
Communicate, leverage business analytical requirements to the lab personal and arrange for resources to meet the needs.
Establish connection with 3rd party lab and maintain network with other technical people (DOW and PETRONAS) to share analytical process and product technology and leverage problem solving and problem prevention expertise.
Plan, develop, coordinate analytical training procedure, material and coaches the lab personal on the analytical systems and technology.
Responsible for laboratory information software (eg; LIMS, Chromeleon), facilities and equipment effectiveness and reliability.
Establish, maintain and apply skills and knowledge in Statistical Technique to maximize laboratory asset reliability and performance to ensure the products quality.
Lead and coordinate collections and reporting of Quality performance indices to management.
Comply with HSE program; effectively contribute in developing and achieving laboratory safety goals.
The Requirements :
Possess degree in Science, Chemistry OR equivalent from recognised university.
At least 5 years working experience in petroleum or chemical manufacturing laboratory.
Skill in Statistical Technique and ability to do Measurement of Uncertainty is an added advantage.
Knowledgeable of Laboratory Information System (LIMS), Chromatography Data System (CDS) and experience in handling GC/MS, AAS, FTIR, IC, HPLC.
Well versed in computer software i.e. MS Excel, MS Project and WEB applications.
