Job Vacancy - Production Technician


The Job :

The Production Technician is responsible to perform all duties and complete all tasks with minimal supervision, following established Operating Procedures. Undertakes all duties contained in all lower levels. The employee’s scope of responsibility will encompass the entire department and interface between functions.

The Responsibilities :

 1.  Certified as operator in two areas/units/sections for this grade level.
 2.  Initiative:
  • Has good understanding of plant process technology and plant chemistry and should take actions and make process adjustments, within the limits of the SOP to achieve targets.
  • Routinely practices trained techniques to eliminate hazards from the plant.
  • Can perform basic trouble shooting of power, utility systems after training/certification for minor repair.
  • Follows up outstanding maintenance requests and equipment problems.
  • Ensures the complete filling of Maintenance Service Request (MSR) including detail job scope (equipment needed, certifications required for personal doing the jobs)
  • Works independently to produce quality results.


  • Practices techniques for problem analysis, productivity improvement, maintenance reliability and asset utilization e.g. Pareto Charts, Fish Bone Diagrams, RCI, etc.
  • Suggests process control improvements.
  • Implements learning or technology transfer from other departments or other plants, or makes original contribution to complete tasks/projects.
  • Improves performance of systems.

Interpersonal Effectiveness:

  • Can prepare a detail note in the logbook, not only limited to actions taken but also the reasons why and possible outcome.
  • Acts as a mentor for junior technicians. Alerts for interaction within the team.
  • Alerts others who are affected by his/her work before problems arise.


  • Holds a first aid certificate.
  • Prepare for vessel entry or excavation activities and authorized to issue the permit.
  • Complete action items taken from team meetings.


  • Take test and complete certifications on time.
  • Uses available learning resource to improve weaknesses.
  • Understands the maintenance and policy concerning plant critical instruments.
  • Understands the principles of quality systems and their applications (ISO 9001:2000).
  • Provides honest and sincere peer assessment feedback supported by comments.

Market Focus:

  • Analyses control charts and reviews control limit for selected process variables.
  • Fast, corrective follow-up on quality incidents is maintained.
  • Responsive to any customer complaints received directly or relayed by the sale or customer service personnel. Prompt follow up as required.


  • Ensures to apply the Management of Change program and initiates a review prior to any process changes.
  • Responding with the team appropriately in emergency/critical situations.
  • Resolve the disconnect problem (relationship) across teams and or between departments.

Value Creation:

  • Critically evaluates relevant data and problems (such as checking out pump noise to see if it cavitates or having bearing problem, checking out an instrument problem, investigating an abnormal condition).
  • Writes suggestions or value creations for improvement.

Responsible Care:

  • Initiates Root Cause investigations.
  • Monitors plant performance in accordance with the environmental program.
  • Ensures wastes are correctly handled, in accordance with procedures.
  • Individual hygiene survey in accordance with procedures.

Information Technology:

  • Be able to use PI and DCS History, dynamic data to make basic decision.
  • Trouble shoots and understands the different process control problems verses mechanical problems or instrument problems in the field.
  • Is knowledgeable in the various ‘health checks’ and problem warning systems of the process control computers. Notifies maintenance in case of any faults in the process control system.

Work Process:

  • Follows the plant processes and knows who to interact with at various stages of the work processes – “Maintenance Process” means working with gate keeper, scheduler, planner, permit writer, and all maintenance teams to get the job done.
  • Expert on all plant Safe Operating Procedures and prepares draft SOP for new or altered process operations.
  • Updates plant documentation e.g. process drawings, equipment records.
  • Has good knowledge and understanding of all plant equipment and instrumentation.

Productivity Focus:

  • Uses productivity tools to analyze and improve plant productivity e.g. Pareto Diagram, SPC, SQC, Master Task List.
  • Knows the approximate value or cost of plant products, projects, consumable and activities product standard cost, overtime budget, fixed cost.

Technical Capability:

  • Analyze and solve technical problems in his/her work area for mechanical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Participate in Root Cause Investigations.
  • Able to efficiently read DCS process control code and relate to plant operations.
  • Able to lead one operation as a whole (i.e. reactor/plant operations, project, etc.)

    The Requirements : 

    • Diploma in Chemical Engineering with minimum 3 years working experience in a Petrochemical Plant, Oil Refineries, Gas Processing Plant or Chemical Process Industry, OR
    • Possess Certificate of Process from Institute of Technology Petronas (INSTEP) OR Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (credit in Science and Mathematic) with minimum 5 years working experience in a Petrochemical Plant, Oil Refineries, Gas Processing Plants or Chemical Process Industry.
    • Experience in Panel Board Operation is an advantage.
    • Able to work on rotating shift and demonstrate experience working in teams towards achieving common goals/objectives.
    • Good communication skills, written/oral in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
