Education

OPTIMAL's commitment in the area of education comes in various forms with the objective of creating a positive impact amongst school children in the vicinity of Paka and Kertih in Terengganu, Malaysia.

Some of the projects carried out include:
English Books Contribution:
  • OPTIMAL contributed a total of 5,000 English books to 14 schools in Kertih in 2002. The effort was in tandem with the Government's growing concern to improve the command of English amongst students.

Adopt-A-School Program:
  • Taking its education outreach efforts a step further, OPTIMAL recently `adopted' a school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Tebing Tembah, with the intention of enhancing the educational performance of students in rural areas.

  • To be carried out over a 12-month period, the school-adoption program will see OPTIMAL contributing in numerous aspects, including offering free tuition classes . These classes will see Year 5 students being tutored in critical subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. Fifty OPTIMAL employees are involved in this voluntary effort, working closely with the teachers to coach the students on their own time.

  • OPTIMAL also organizes English enhancement classes for teachers of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tebing Tembah.

  • In the pipeline are Computer programming classes for teachers, an IT system for the school's library as well as a school beautification project.

Furniture Contribution:
  • This involved a contribution of furniture to 12 schools within Kertih to help provide a more conducive learning environment for students.

Internship:
  • The OPTIMAL Group of Companies first opened its doors in 2003 to three technical students from the Pahang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) to start their industrial training attachment at the Company's Maintenance Department.

'Back-to-School' Contribution in Aid of Underprivileged Students:

  • In line with the start of the 2005 academic year, OPTIMAL contributed school bags, shoes and uniforms to 80 underprivileged students from around Paka and Kertih. The contribution was aimed in helping the students meet their basic needs for the new school term apart from inspiring them to enhance their academic performance.
